4) Logan Square Former Mega Mall Gets New $20M Building Permit With A Mini Target
Logan Square is changing if you’re looking to buy real estate. The former mega mall at the 2500 block of N Milwaukee Ave will become a 7 story apartment building complete with a mini Target at street level with additional commercial space availability.
The $20 million building permit has been granted by the City of Chicago and will be called Logan’s Crossing located near the Logan Square blue line train. Roberto Maldonado passed legislation to officially recognize the area as Puerto Rico Town and convert the area to special purpose district. The intention is to recognize and preserve Puerto Rican culture and how it shaped the area.
The original area was Division Street from Western to California but was extended with legislation to extend from Western to Grand Avenue. “Paseo Boriqua”, or loosely translated to Puerto Rican Walkway, was the unofficial name and it is now internationally recognized and official. There is some controversy over the long term effects and taxes for homeowners in the area and for future buyers looking to buy real estate in the neighborhood.
